New Bruce Lee Biopic To Be Made By Ang Lee

There have been many biopics on the life of Bruce Lee over the years from low-budget exploitation films to big studio films such as Dragon The Bruce Lee Story from Universal.

Now award-winning director Ang Lee is to direct Bruce Lee, a new film from Sony 3000 Pictures. The director’s son, Mason Lee, who is perhaps best known for his roles in 2011’s The Hangover Part II will be playing the iconic martial arts superstar.

“Accepted as neither fully American nor fully Chinese, Bruce Lee was a bridge between East and West who introduced Chinese Kung Fu to the world, a scientist of combat and an iconic performing artist who revolutionized both the martial arts and action cinema,” Ang Lee told Deadline. “I feel compelled to tell the story of this brilliant, unique human being who yearned for belonging, possessed tremendous power in a 135-pound-frame, and who, through tireless hard work, made impossible dreams into reality.”

The movie will be produced by Lawrence Grey, Shannon Lee, Ang Lee, Ben Everard and Brian Bell, with Elizabeth Gabler and Marisa Paiva overseeing the project. With Shannon Lee’s involvement, it will be interesting to see if it will be a squeaky-clean portrayal or tell some of the more complex sides of his character. We will update you with more information when we get it.
